NEWS AND EVENTS PAGE. Hi guys welcome to the News and Events page. Here you will find details on any upcoming events such as the Southern Conference, challenge games, game results with game reports, team related events like the christmas awards meal and any other news that may be of interest to the team. IF you have any news or stories you wish to share or even secondhand kit you may wish to sell then email me the details and i can include it in the page.
SOUTHERN REC CONFERENCE. Well a great start to the season with a 8 - 2 win on home ice against the Solent & Gosport Spartans, an excellent team effort and a well deserved 'man of the match' for the smoke going to our netminder No 1 Vic Falsetta. This was followed with a loss at home against the Blizzard 9 - 3 and a home win against Slough 6 - 5. At a glance the rest of the season continues with the 15th April away at Slough Scorpions, 21st April away at Bracknell Blizzard, 28th April home against Medway Madness, 20th May away at Medway Madness, 27th May away at Solent Spartans. PLayoff dates to be confirmed on results near the end of the regular season.
TEAM MEMBERSHIP. In order to cover our regular ice costs we are looking at expanding the membership of the club by taking on a few more new players. We are especially interested in a few more defencemen as we are currently overwhelmed with Forwards. If you know of any one interested don't hesitate to put them in touch with me via email on coach@guildfordsmoke.co.uk.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS. This brings me onto future team development. Most of you may have heard mention of the creation of a second squad, now with the increase in squad membership and everyone deserving ice time in games my idea is to create the second squad. The plan would be to try and arrange games home and away to coincide so whilst one squad plays at home the other is away. Now to achieve this will take greater support and assistance from everyone involved. Training would also change in format with each squad training together in separate halves of the ice with individual coaching, with training tailored to each squads ability and working on the skills needed and at the right level of intensity. I want to point out that this is still only an idea and will be subject to discussion with the whole squad.
TEAM SUPPORT. To achieve the formation of the two squads it will take more support from the team, we need to get more help from wives, partners, friends in such things as running the clock, penalty boxes, filling in game sheets and other such duties as well as more supporters at games which would greatly enhance the atmosphere at games. I will in future be putting the organization of the running of the clock and game sheets in the teams hands, to be honest ideally what the team needs now is a manager, ideally a non playing parent .... any ideas?. If a second squad is formed then a dedicated game coordinator for the teams would be good.
MUT OF THE MONTH. New for 2012, mut of the month, send your nominations for mut of the month any why and it will be posted for all to see. Also if you cant make training don't forget to let me know and the most weird and wacky excuses will get posted here too. Well lets look forward to a great year for the Smoke, c ya all on the ice.
